World War Z

War
Through a series of oral interviews, Brooks, as an agent of the United Nations Postwar Commission, describes the history of 'World War Z'. Although the origin of the zombie pandemic is unknown, the story begins in China after a zombie bites a young boy. The Chinese government attempts to contain the infection and concocts a crisis involving Taiwan to mask their activities. The infection is spread to other countries by the black market organ trade and by refugees; an outbreak in South Africa finally brings the plague to public attention.
As the infection spreads, only Israel initiates a nationwide quarantine and closes its borders. Pakistan and Iran destroy each other in a nuclear war after Iran attempts to stem the flow of refugees from Pakistan. The United States of America does little to prepare; although special forces teams are used to contain initial outbreaks, a widespread effort never starts as the nation is sapped of political will by several "brushfire wars", and an ineffective and fraudulently marketed vaccine has created a false sense of security. When the world recognizes the true scope of the problem, a period known as the "Great Panic" begins. The United States Army sends a task force to Yonkers, New York, in a high-profile military campaign intended to restore American morale. However, the military relies upon Cold War tactics, weapons intended to disable vehicles, and the wounding or demoralization of human opponents: these have no effect on a force that uses wave attacks, has to be shot in the head to be stopped, and has no fear of death. As a result the soldiers are routed on live television. Other countries suffer similarly disastrous defeats, and human civilization teeters on the brink of collapse.

There was World War I, and II, but this story is about World War Z. It's a virus that people can get that makes them turn into pretty much zombies and start killing people. The world then goes into a panic. And two countries end up blowing each other up in a nuclear war and everyone else is getting turned into or killed by zombies.

It's a different way to look at a zombie apocalypse and it's detailed. Because mostly when a zombie apocalypse occurs, everyone thinks its the zombies causing all of the problems, but in this story, it's countries that are blowing each other up and hurting each other. They start wars between each other blaming the other for whats happening.

Nothing But Flowers by Talking Heads

LYRICS: Here we stand
Like an Adam and an Eve
Waterfalls
The Garden of Eden
Two fools in love
So beautiful and strong
The birds in the trees
Are smiling upon them
From the age of the dinosaurs
Cars have run on gasoline
Where, where have they gone?
Now, it's nothing but flowers

There was a factory
Now there are mountains and rivers
you got it, you got it

We caught a rattlesnake
Now we got something for dinner
we got it, we got it

There was a shopping mall
Now it's all covered with flowers
you've got it, you've got it

If this is paradise
I wish I had a lawnmower
you've got it, you've got it

Years ago
I was an angry young man
I'd pretend
That I was a billboard
Standing tall
By the side of the road
I fell in love
With a beautiful highway
This used to be real estate
Now it's only fields and trees
Where, where is the town
Now, it's nothing but flowers
The highways and cars
Were sacrificed for agriculture
I thought that we'd start over
But I guess I was wrong

Once there were parking lots
Now it's a peaceful oasis
you got it, you got it

This was a Pizza Hut
Now it's all covered with daisies
you got it, you got it

I miss the honky tonks,
Dairy Queens, and 7-Elevens
you got it, you got it

And as things fell apart
Nobody paid much attention
you got it, you got it

I dream of cherry pies,
Candy bars, and chocolate chip cookies
you got it, you got it

We used to microwave
Now we just eat nuts and berries
you got it, you got it

This was a discount store,
Now it's turned into a cornfield
you got it, you got it

Don't leave me stranded here
I can't get used to this lifestyle/td>

There are always stories, movies and games about apocalypses and right after and apocalypse is over. But we never really see years and years after. This song by Talking Heads is about how the world is years after an apocalypse. It describes the world as it is in the beginning, kind of like the world reset it's self. There were cities and buildings, but now it's filled with trees, grass and flowers. This song also talks about how humans will have a hard time dealing with the change from cities to agriculture.

I think it's clever that even though the world went through something catastrophic, later it will be like the Earth starting over, like it couldn't take what was happening to it and just started over.

The person who wrote this song tells of what there used to be and what it is now. "We used to microwave. Now we just eat nuts and berries you got it, you got it." The man speaking in this misses the cities and the way it used to be and doesn't like the agriculture world he lives in now. By saying at the end "Don't leave me stranded here I can't get used to this lifestyle" he doesn't like the environment like it is and likes the technology that we have.

First motion censors to play, now mind controlling?!

Technology

All of these gaming companies are always trying to beat the others. First it was the Wii with motion censor controls. And then Playstation came out with their own version. And recently XBOX came out with the KINECT, where your body is the controller and you are actually in the game.

The only way to one up this installment would be to not even not to get up and out of your seat to play the game, but still be the controller. All you have to do with this new concept for the Wii, all you have to do is think of what to do, and it'll  happen in the game. With technology advancing so quickly now, it could possibly happen.

But the pessimist in me pictures everything that could go wrong with this game. See that headset? That surrounding your head where your brain is. If that thing short circuits and you're wearing it, that could fry your brain. Or it could give you some long term affects. I'm sure someone will find out that it could eventually give you brain cancer. It seems really sketchy to me, cool, but sketchy.

This tells us that humans want to beat each other. XBOX wants to beat out Wii, then Wii wants to beat out XBOX. We're competitive. We'll always try to think of newer and more interesting things to try and have people pay more attention to us than others.

We Need To Change How We're Living, Or Our Great Great Great Great Grandchildren Won't Know What Fresh Air Feels Like.

Environment
'
In WALL-E, the pollution on Earth gets so bad that humans are sent into space on the Axium where robots cater to everything they need while robots on earth clean it all up and fix our past mistakes. But it doesn't work, Earth is too polluted for people to ever live on so the humans stay in space. After many years, the people in the Axium wont even know what Earth is and what it's made of.

It's sad, these people won't know what it's like to go to the park or the beach and sit under the sun on a nice summer day. They're lives are controlled pretty much by robots or a system that is the same thing everyday. And they're all lazy and don't move because they sit on hovering chairs all of the time. It will get to the point that they're so blinded by the technology around them that they wont even notice that there is a pool or a gym on the space station. They'll live and die on this confined space where there is no variety or anything.

The depictions on the future says that we need to do something about our present. We need to stop polluting our world so much. If we keep moving like we are, the world will get so bad that we'll need to find somewhere else to live and survive. This is a possibility to happen if we dont stop contributing to pollution.

Instead of a war between the countries, we'll be fighting against other worlds

War

Now a days, we are at war with our own species. We fight each other, country against country. But with technology enhancing and scientists wanting to know more about the universe, in the future, instead of fighting each other, we'll be fighting other planets and other species.

But will we be ready if another planet does come to fight us? Sure, we have guns and bombs, we know they work against humans, but will they work against aliens? And even if they do come will we band together and fight against them, or still fight against each other for survival? According to this 1953 movie, insanity will ensue and people will push and throw each other out of the way in order to get to safety themselves.

They use newspapers as propaganda to let everyone know what is going on and what they need to do. Putting the words INVASION in big letters at the top sends everyone into a panic. They use these to scare people so they can try and save themselves and find shelter away from the aliens.

Government

LYRICS:
I. Overture (0:00)

And the meek shall inherit the earth...

II. Temples of Syrinx (4:33)

We've taken care of everything
The words you read, the songs you sing
The pictures that give pleasure to your eyes.
It's one for all and all for one
We work together, common sons
Never need to wonder how or why.

We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx
Our great computers fill the hallowed halls.
We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx
All the gifts of life are held within our walls.

Look around at this world we've made
Equality our stock in trade
Come and join the Brotherhood of Man
Oh, what a nice, contented world
Let the banners be unfurled
Hold the Red Star proudly high in hand.

We are the Priests of the Temples of Syrinx
Our great computers fill the hallowed halls.
We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx
All the gifts of life are held within our walls.

III. Discovery (6:47)

What can this strange device be?
When I touch it, it gives forth a sound
It's got wires that vibrate and give music
What can this thing be that I found?

See how it sings like a sad heart
And joyously screams out its pain
Sounds that build high like a mountain
Or notes that fall gently like rain.

I can't wait to share this new wonder
The people will all see its light
Let them all make their own music
The Priests praise my name on this night.

IV. Presentation (10:16)

I know it's most unusual
To come before you so
But I've found an ancient miracle
I thought that you should know
Listen to my music
And hear what it can do
There's something here as strong as life
I know that it will reach you.

Yes, we know, it's nothing new
It's just a waste of time
We have no need for ancient ways
Our world is doing fine
Another toy will help destroy
The elder race of man
Forget about your silly whim
It doesn't fit the plan.

I can't believe you're saying
These things just can't be true
Our world could use this beauty
Just think what we might do.
Listen to my music
And hear what it can do
There's something here as strong as life
I know that it will reach you.

Don't annoy us further!
We have our work to do.
Just think about the average
What use have they for you?
Another toy will help destroy
The elder race of man
Forget about your silly whim
It doesn't fit the plan!

V. Oracle: The Dream (13:58)

I wandered home though the silent streets
And fell into a fitful sleep
Escape to realms beyond the night
Dream can't you show me the light?

I stand atop a spiral stair
An oracle confronts me there
He leads me on light years away
Through astral nights, galactic days
I see the works of gifted hands
That grace this strange and wondrous land
I see the hand of man arise
With hungry mind and open eyes

They left our planets long ago
The elder race still learn and grow
Their power grows with purpose strong
To claim the home where they belong
Home to tear the Temples down...
Home to change!

VI. Soliloquy (15:58)

The sleep is still in my eyes
The dream is still in my head
I heave a sigh and sadly smile
And lie a while in bed
I wish that it might come to pass
Not fade like all my dreams...

Just think of what my life might be
In a world like I have seen!
I don't think I can carry on
Carry on this cold and empty life

My spirits are low in the depths of despair
My lifeblood...
...spills over...

VII. The Grand Finale (18:19)
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
Attention all Planets of the Solar Federation
We have assumed control
We have assumed control
We have assumed

In 2112 by Rush is a story that's about 20 minutes long and is about a dystopian world that is controlled by the government. It is much like Fahrenheit 451 except instead of books being illegal, but the guitar is being censored from the people by the "Priests" or the government that is controlling the society. Then the main character finds this guitar as a new discovery and presents it to the Priests, thinking it will be a great contribution to the society and it's music. When he does present it to the priests, it calls it an "ancient miracle" but the priests don't like it and think it's a waste of time and will help destroy the human race, calling it a "toy." They tell him to go away and leave the guitar alone. He then has a dream of what man can do with the guitar and the talents they have. The dream haunts this man and he doesn't know what to do and he ends up killing himself.

This is supposed to be a hundred years in the future, so it could happen since auto tune is getting so popular these days. In all of the newest song hits, what's mainly used is a keyboard. Then everything gets edited to sound like something else. After awhile guitars could be taken out of the mix and if the government wants can make them illegal. And since the past repeats itself, someone may find a guitar, see what it can do, think it's some amazing discovery and try and have it make a comeback. Of course, I wouldn't want to be in this kind of world because I love the sound of guitars and would go nuts if I had to listen to music that's edited to the extreme all of the time.

Rush uses a lot of guitar in this song, to emphasize what the guitar contributes to the music. And when the Priests are talking, the music behind them is more harsh. But when it's the man speaking, it's more appealing and nicer to hear. The music for the priests is more like a "listen to us!" but the man's music is innocent.

The Priests were in control of this society. They made everyone think that things are okay as it is. When the man went to them with the guitar they just told him it's nonsense and they don't need it. They used this as their language to tell the man to stop with the guitar.

Censorship doesn't always help.

Government

In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, a dystopian society is banned from reading and owning books.  Instead of fighting fires and putting them out, firemen go to people's houses and burn the books. Since there aren't any books, people spend almost all of their time watching TV on the walls of their parlors. The parlors are the propaganda used to control the humans. The government believes that without books, people aren't getting offended by someone's book, so the simplest thing to do is to get rid of all of them in general. But this harms the intelligence and attention span of others. You can't keep someone's attention for that long, and even if you do, it isnt an interesting conversation.

It's ridiculous. I would not want to live in this society. They arent really happy since at least 10 people try to kill themselves every night, even though they cant remember the next that they tried. The firemen think that they are doing the right thing and it will help people be happier. But they aren't, With people watching the TV 24/7 the media can control everyone in this society. The media controls them.

In this story, humans are kept in control all of the time. Everyone is the same and talk about the same things. To be human in this story is to watching TV and do as the rules say. You cannot question what is happening and you cannot go against the rules.

What The future will look like

Technology
This is a very "Jetsons" feel of what our future could be like. Since there are flying cars and oddly shaped buildings. They aren't box shaped like buildings right now. This is a concept art of what the future will look like.

Technology has definitely evolved from now until this time period. There are flying cars and air traffic. We must have come up with a new way for fuel in order to drive these cars and make them fly. The buildings have places for the cars to fly into. Like the present, there are many buildings and they are very tall.

If you only look at the top half of the picture, it looks like a pretty cool world. Flying cars? We've been striving for that kind of technology for years. Just like in the TV show "The Jetsons" they thought we would have flying cars by 2000. Sadly, that didn't happen. But we still hope it'll happen! And then you look at the bottom half of the picture, on the ground, it looks more dark and depressing. You would think in the future, there wouldn't be rust, or it wouldn't be dirty, but in this picture, the bottom looks dirty and grungy. I mean, by this picture the future looks cool with the flying cars and all, but I wouldn't want want to live in a world that is like this.

This image depicts that because of how we treat the world presently, it can harm the future even if we have technological advances in our transportation. We are so focused on making technological advances on some things, we aren't coming up with solutions for for pollution, so in the future, we may have flying cars, but the world is still filthy.

If Years of Life Were The Equivalent to Money, This Is What Our Society Would Look Like.

Inequality

In Time is a movie about in the future, instead having money, the years of your life are used to pay for things. You start with 25 years, and you make the years you spend. SO, if you're rich, you can live forever. But if you're poor, you have no chance to live very long. It's kind of like now, the rich live easy, while the poor bust their butts to try and get to the level of living.

It isn't fair. You can watch your life literally pass right before your own eyes. You can watch time pass by on your arm. It's not like your death will be a surprise. If you aren't making years like the rich, you know the exact minute and second you will die. It's sickening and scary. If you're born into a poor family, you are screwed. There's no chance because it's not like you can hide the fact that you're poor, people can just see your arm and know, then they'll treat you differently. The rich pretty much rule the society, and they just need everyone else there so they can be considered upper class.

Then, something is made so that you can take years away from people and give them to someone else. And someone who has over a hundred years to live, suddenly runs out of time and then someone who was poor has a whole bunch of years. Then he starts giving years to other poor people. He's the robin hood of our future. Take from the rich and give to the poor. And the government tries to stop him for helping others! It's ridiculous!

A future like this would be very morbid. If it was to be converted right now, my family would definitely not be in the rich category. and I'd have a lot of anxiety since I can seriously see how many years I have left to live. It's really sad. And if you're poor and have kids, and they see you only have a day left and they ask whats going wrong? THAT'S SO SAD. You have to tell your children you're going to die tomorrow, and at like the exact time. It's not like that doesn't happen now, but it would happen more frequently. And even now you dont know if you will die tomorrow. The whole thing is just sad and depressing.

But okay, if the world was like that and Justin Timberlake gave me a few extra years to live? I guess I'd be okay with that. I mean, it's Justin Timberlake, nothing is bad about that at all.

Croatoan zombie monsters

Religion
(Youtube won't let me embed the video here, so this is the link to it: http://youtu.be/huihRfzVTtA)
and here are a couple of pictures:

In episode 4 of season 5 in the CW show “Supernatural,” Dean Winchester is sent 3 years into the future where it’s apocalyptic world. A couple of years before this, Lucifer had been set free from his cage that the archangel Michael had cast him in when he went against God. Now the apocalypse is set on our world. Everything is run down and destroyed. This virus called “Croatoan” has been spread through almost all of the human population. The croatoan virus makes people go crazy and attack each other. It is spread through the blood, so if someone is infected and they cut you, and there blood comes in to contact with the wound, you will have this virus and in a few hours go crazy also. They’re kind of like zombies since they Those who do not have this disease, have to protect themselves. They live in a camp somewhere out of the main cities and always have some type of weapon to protect themselves.

It's scary, if the apocalypse were to happen in my lifetime, I wouldn't survive. My Anxiety would drive me to the point of insanity. You never feel safe, never feel comfortable. If you don't pay attention to your surroundings for even a second, something or someone might attack you and you could die. And it's not like the apocalypse couldn't happen, there's always a certain day that someone says the end of the world will happen. Like Y2K in 2000 when everyone thought the world was going to end. And on 6/6/06 everyone thought that the world was going to end then since it's the number of the devil. Or how it's predicted that on December 21st 2012 the world will end because the Mayan Calendar ends there. And it's not like we're completely sure or not sure it would happen. We cant predict the future.

Hopefully, this doesn't happen. Many places in the world already live in fear for there lives, like in war zones. And, then you can just come to a peace treaty and end it. But the apocalypse? That's irreversible. If the apocalypse were to happen like it did in Supernatural, that means that there's a greater power that's in control of out lives and destinies. Not ourselves. And we have no way to stop it. We aren't supposed to stop it.
